A Penny for your thoughts!

Ms. Serenity was doing a lesson on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in honor of President's Day.  She was working with a group and asked, "Who's face is on the penny?"   One little boy looks at her and he said "Not mine!"

Is this a Kindergarten class or the Senior Citizen Home?

I do not know what go into my students today!  Maybe it was the first Spring-like day of the year...At any rate, they were not with it!  I had at least 3 students come up to my desk with the intent of telling me something only to have them stare at me blankly and say, "I forgot what I was going to say."  LOL This happens maybe once during the day, but today was just too funny!  They also were so slow when they were walking in the hallways.  It was like they were taking a stroll through a field of flowers.  I thought to myself at one point during the day "Where AM I?  I'm pretty sure the Senior Center is across the way!"  LOL

This just goes to show you that no matter how young you are, you can always have brain farts!

Like a Bad Botox Job!

Ms. Serenity was talking to a group of co-workers today, myself included.  I am not quite sure how we got on the subject, but she was talking to us about her greeting she does with her students every morning.  She starts off by saying "Good Morning!" to one of the students and then they have to return the greeting and then pass it on to another student.  Ms. S has a very animated and funny little boy Juan.  She told us that every morning he says his greeting with the most awkward fake smile.  Mrs. Mello (Ms. S's aide) likened the face to a 'bad Botox job'.  If you can't picture it, check out Hillary Clinton here:
There you have it!  Now, just imagine a 6 year old boy greeting you like that every morning!

Oldie but Goodie!

This happened a few months back, when the weather first started to turn cold.  My students were preparing for dismissal when I noticed Linus was fumbling with his gloves.  I made a general announcement that everyone should be diligent in making sure they put on any hats/gloves/scarfs to school as this is what their Moms and Dads would want.  A moment later Linus looks at me and says, "Yeah, Mrs. Sunshine, I need to make sure I don't lose my gloves.  My Dad told me that he'd be (voice lowers to a whisper) really pissed off if I lost them."

Oh no he didn't.  He did not just say to me "really pissed off" with the straightest poker face I have ever seen.  I don't know how I held it together, but deep down inside I was laughing....hard!

Jesus and Bananas

My co-worker Mrs. Verde was telling all of us a cute story from her Sunday School class.  This past Sunday Mrs. Verde was having the children act out a happening in the Bible.  When they were done, she posed a question, "Some birds float on the water, can we walk on the water?"  The students replied with a unanimous "No".  So, Mrs. Verde then asked, "Who is the only person that can walk on water?"  A little boy threw his hand up as fast as he could.  Mrs. V called on him and she said "Do you know who it is?"  The little boy replied excitedly, "No, but did you know that if you put a banana in the freezer, it will turn brown?!"

.....

Mrs. Verde had to leave the room so that she could laugh out loud.

Welcome!

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Sunshine and I am a first year Kindergarten teacher.  I have the great pleasure of working at a smaller school with a wonderful and seasoned staff.  Being a rookie I couldn't have asked for a better place to be.  The students are great and my co-workers are terrific.  This blog is dedicated to my life in the classroom as well as sharing other's stories of their classroom life.  I think at least one of us says "We could write a book!" on a daily basis.  So, here is my version of a "book".  Sit back, relax and be prepared to laugh, cry or even be brought back to your time in Kindergarten!
